Desertion of the Dinobots Part 2

Plot Summary:

Spike and Carly have traveled to Cybertron in pursuit of the missing Dinobots, only to be confronted by Shockwave, the Decepticon Guardian of Cybertron, who promptly destroys Carly's car, and attempts to kill the two humans. To escape, Spike and Carly dive underneath a computer console, and discover the Decepticon computer core, which controls what is still operational on Cybertron. Carly accidentally shorts out the computer core, making it impossible for more cybertonium to be sent to Earth until repairs are completed. They escape from Decepticon headquarters, and travel to Wheeljack's old laboratory (see "Divide and Conquer") in the hope that some would have been stored there. There, they meet up with Swoop, who tells him that the other Dinobots were captured, and taken to the cybertonium mines. Attempting to find the cybertonium mines, the four are captured and taken to the mines as more slave labour by Shockwave's Sentinel robots. There, they free the Dinobots, break back in to Decepticon headquarters, and travel back to Earth with enough cybertonium to restore the Autobots.

Best Dialogue:

Shockwave: (referring to humans) "Miserable glitches!"

Carly: (after she and Spike fall into the computer core) "You know what we're in?"
Spike: "Trouble?"

(Spike and Carly shriek as the lift tube drops sharply downward)
Swoop:
"Why you make that noise?"
Spike: "Because we left our stomachs up there!"
Swoop: "Me glad me no have stomach to leave."

Watch For...

When Teletran constructs a graphic of the inside of the Decepticon computer core, if you pause and zoom in (or have good eyesight) you can make out the words 'DECEPTIKON COMPUTER BRAIN' in approximately the middle of the graphic.

Ark-style ships launching during the historical playback.

Dirt in the cybertonium mines. This either reinforces Optimus Primal's contention in Beast Machines that Cybertron was once an organic planet, or the idea that the metallic layers of Cybertron were originally built upon an asteroid or small planet. (If you follow the comic continuity, it could also be the surface of the asteroid Primus crashed himself into in order to trap Unicron.)

Comments:

The animation in part 2 is completely different from (and superior to) part 1.

I love the sense of size you get when Shockwave kneels down to look under the computer console after Spike and Carly take their dive.

Thank Primus, they made Carly blonde, but they didn't make her dumb.

Interesting. Shockwave refers to Swoop as a 'foreign robot', although there's no indication as to whether this is due to the fact that he was not indigenous to Cybertron, or that Shockwave just doesn' t recognize him.
